Race Report 27/07/2008
Only two hard men turned up for the race of truth this week. The author of this piece of journalistic brilliance deciding that preparation was the key to success and lunched on a hearty meal of Chicken Balti,
plentiful helpings of Boiled Rice, 2 Plain Naans and a few pints of Extra Cold for that added carbo boost. The first 7km went well with a quick time and an average speed of just under 40km, it was then the impending disaster struck as the Balti, now well and truly mixed with the Extra Cold reared its ugly head, resulting in a severe reduction of pace and ultimately retirement.
News of the Balti’s return had reached race HQ just as Humberto was about to launch himself onto the course. A fast sprint start had him up to speed quickly and changing his position on the bike as he settled
into that familiar TT wind cheating mode. Humberto was flying and excitement grew as it looked as though the course record would fall. Watching him (whilst crouched at the side of the road with a severe case
of gastric turbulence!) as he exited the roundabout after the first lap he certainly looked like a man with the bit between his teeth. It was during the latter half of the second lap that the wind picked up (not
mine, the weather) and again the course record was looking safe. Humberto had to dig deep during the last km and flew across the finishing line posting a time of 25:46
